We continue this fifth day, already exhausted by the fantastic walk at Sigiriya this morning. But we will not be disappointed either this afternoon.
Polonnaruwa is a place full with archaeological wonders. If you followed the previous posts, you already know Sri Lanka tries hard to put in the best possible light an impressive cultural heritage. Nothing to envy to countries like the Egypt or Jordan.

Le site est très vaste et il faut être véhiculé pour aller d’un point à un autre. Comme la veille à Anuradhapura, notre conducteur nous négocie les services d’un guide (officiel ou en tout cas on pourrait presque le croire car il est dans le centre d’accueil touristique). On se déplacera à 4 ou 5 endroits différents en quelques heures, sous un soleil accablant.

Polonnaruwa is a very large site and it’s necessary to use a car to get from one point to another. Like he did in Anuradhapura, our van driver negotiates the services of a guide (a legit or at least one it seems so, because he was in the tourist information center). We will visit to 4 or 5 different places within a few hours under the hot sun.

Que ce soit un séjour de plusieurs semaines ou juste un week-end, il y en aura pour tous les goûts. Mais je ne me fais aucune illusion sur le trafic généré par un tel blog (tlog pour travel log?). Il n’existe que pour mon plaisir et tout au plus pour quelques amis ou membres de la famille.

Je ne prétends en rien expliquer ici qu’il est primordial de s’ouvrir aux autres, que seules les rencontres font les voyages, etc. Encore moins, je ne vous dirai que les trips à la “roots” sont dignes d’être mentionnés. Bien au contraire, j’aime les villes. Les mégalopoles bondées et au bon monoxyde d’azote. J’aime une bonne douche chaque soir et pas d’insectes rampants sous mes draps. Et je suis généralement vite agacé par les discours moralisateurs des « voyageurs » aventuriers.

Et pourquoi lostagain.fr? D’abord, parce que lostagain.com était réservé sur un site parking (le prix demandé par le cybersquatteur n’est pas moins de 10.000$ avant négociation) et surtout parce que je suis affublé du plus mauvais sens de l’orientation du monde. Même aidé d’un GPS ou d’un smartphone avec GoogleMaps, je me perds TOUT le temps. C’est presque devenu une marque de fabrique. Et si c’est handicapant quand j’ai besoin d’être à l’heure à un rendez-vous, c’est aussi l’occasion de tomber sur des endroits inattendus quand je voyage.

No, I’m not a « traveler ». At best, I’m a tourist. Or an occasional curious, using a business trip opportunity to visit around. If I am not very proud of my carbon footprint, I confess that I love travels probably more than anything else.

But I have no unrealistic expectations about the traffic this blog will generated. I only publish it for my own pleasure and may be for a few friends or family members.

I do not pretend to explain or teach that is important to open up to others, that only encounters make the travel worthy, etc. No « adventure in the wild » here. On the contrary, I love cities. Crowded and polluted megacities. I love a nice shower every night at the hotel and no insects crawling under my sheets. And I’m usually quickly annoyed by moralistic « travelers » adventurers talks.

Why Lostagain.fr, you may ask? Even, if you don’t, let me explain:
First, because lostagain.com cost $ 10,000 (I asked the cybersquatting site owning it). Second, because my sense of direction is poor at a point of being ridiculous . Even assisted with GPS or GoogleMaps, I get lost ALL the time. It has almost become a trademark. And if it’s annoying when I need to be on time at an appointment, it is also an opportunity to come across unexpected places when I travel.
